Canadian police, intelligence agencies, and politicians are determined to crush the Trucker protests:
Police are now seizing the Truckers’ fuel, which is obviously the lifeblood of the Trucker Convoy:
More via Rebel News:
The reports of arrests and fuel confiscations come just two days after Ottawa police promised a “surge and contain” strategy to deal with the peaceful anti-COVID restriction protest that landed in the city on January 27.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declared a local state of emergency Sunday night to allow the city to take extraordinary measures to remove the truckers and their supporters.
But remember: it is important that we all boycott the Winter Olympics because the Chinese Government is a threat to human rights.
ZeroHedge has more:
Protesters continued to gather and demonstrate against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions in Canada’s capital on Feb. 6, marking the one week anniversary of the so-called “occupation.”
“We are on day eight of this occupation. Our city is under siege. What we’re seeing is bigger than just a City of Ottawa problem. This is a nationwide insurrection. This is madness. We need a concrete plan to put an end to this,” said the chair of the board, Ottawa City Council member Diane Deans, at the beginning of the nearly two-hour-long virtual discussion.
Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly agreed with her portrayal of the situation, saying that local law enforcement was “never intended to deal with a city under siege,” and decried the lack of resources – and legal authority – to disperse the protest.
At one point, Deans wondered whether the city had legal grounds to declare an unlawful assembly and then a riot, in order to conduct mass arrests, instead of pursuing “one criminal charge at a time.”
“There are so many people out there engaged in a broader act of… mayhem, that we need to be able to bring it all under control,” she said.
“We can’t allow this kind of terrorism in our community to continue this way.”
Yes, in accordance with the narrative laid down from Trudeau’s twitter feed, the establishment is now calling protesting truckers – terrorists!
And as a result of all that hysteria, The Epoch Times reports that Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has declared a state of emergency due to the trucker protest that continues in the city’s downtown core.
In a brief statement, the city said the decision reflects the “serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government. ”
“It also provides greater flexibility within the municipal administration to enable the City of Ottawa to manage business continuity for essential services for its residents and enables a more flexible procurement process, which could help purchase equipment required by frontline workers and first responders,” the city said in its statement.
The police storming in and arresting these protesters will be the first violence to take place since these Truckers arrived 8 days ago.
So peaceful protest is not permitted in Canada–not if it goes on too long, at least. Sure, you can protest against the government for a day or two and then disperse voluntarily, but if you really commit to the protest and dig in, and refuse to stop protesting until your grievances have been heard, they treat you as an enemy of the state.
I guess we have found our breaking point for supposedly free, democratic and liberal Western governments–the moment they turn into paranoid despots who view the people of their nation as threats.
They’re all about “human rights” and “liberal democracy”–until they actually have to prove it with their actions.
They love protests and mass demonstrations in other countries, but crush them in their own country.
This is the true face of Western leaders; they are not public servants. They are not regular people who were called to government service.
They are a detached, arrogant and power-hungry ruling class, who view the people as a constant threat to their grip on power. Holding on to power is literally all they care about, and they will not hesitate to send in the riot police to crush a peaceful protest if they feel threatened.
If Western governments truly were “representative democracies” the way they’re presented to us, then most of the Canadian government would resign in the face of these protests.
The sheer number of people who have turned out to Ottawa, the dedication they have shown to stay put for more than a week and counting, the fact that they’ve raised millions of dollars for their cause, and the fact that they were cheered and celebrated like conquering heroes of ancient times basically the whole time they drove east on the trans-Canada highway–in a real representative democracy, that would be enough to show the government that it does not have the confidence and consent of the governed.
And the government would have either resigned or accommodated the demands of the protesters. Because after all, in a representative democracy, isn’t it about representing the people? Isn’t that the whole point of representative democracy?
No, apparently not anymore.
Nowadays, when massive numbers of people turn out to protest and demand the government abandon its policies, the government views them as a threat–a threat that must be crushed.
Western governments are not of the people, for the people, and by the people. At least not anymore.
This is not government by the people; this is government despite the people. They have proven that they are a self-interested, power hungry ruling class, not representatives of the people.
No government that turns on its own people can claim to be of, for and by the people. That much should be perfectly obvious.
What should also be obvious is that this crackdown on dissent will not cause that dissent to erode away.
In fact, just the opposite; dealing with protest by suppressing it instead of addressing the people’s concerns can only work if you intend to rule as a dictator from now on, and you sufficiently make an example out of the dissidents to scare the rest of the country away from ever rising up again. I don’t think the Canadian government is prepared to lock up the Truckers en masse and indefinitely, or hang them for treason, which means the government’s present actions will only fan the flames of unrest and rebellion.
Governments can only rule by fear or respect. There is no middle ground; if the people neither fear nor respect the government, that probably means they hate the government, and eventually the government will be, for all intents and purposes, overthrown, either through a massive rejection via the ballot or a straight-up revolution.
Cracking down on and dispersing the protesters is not going to cause the protesters to abandon their cause. It will only make them more determined to keep protesting.
The Real Fly sums it up well:
